Our Commitment

Raising the bar for U.S. baby food safety.

Did you know only 9% of American parents have a 'high degree' of trust in baby food brands?

That's why we became the first and only baby food company with publicly available testing standards for over 500 toxins + contaminants:

Heavy Metals

Pesticides + Glyphosate

Plasticizers BPA + BPS

We hold ourselves to our high standard because that's what parents deserve.

Your questions, answered.

Great question! Our focus on baby products stems from the heightened vulnerability of children under 2 years old and therefore, a need for specified safety requirements. That's why at Little Spoon we have established European Union inspired safety standards for all of our offerings in the baby space. Regulations like California Assembly Bill 899 specifically require heavy metal testing for baby foods marketed to children under 2. While products for older kids aren’t included in these mandates, we hold all our offerings to the highest safety standards. You can check out our approach and a range of our farm partners on the Little Spoon Our Standards page.
At Little Spoon, we rigorously test for over 500 toxins, including heavy metals, plasticizers (specifically BPA and BPS), and pesticides (including glyphosate). Our current testing protocol tests for heavy metals in every batch of our baby stage offerings—we do this so you can have up to date information for your little one. Our pesticides, glyphosate + plasticizers testing is done regularly to ensure we meet our European Union inspired safety standards. You can have the peace of mind of knowing that we voluntarily adhere to some of the strictest standards in the world and none of our baby offerings will be sold without meeting our testing limits. Your little one’s safety is our top priority!
Heavy metals can feel like a scary topic, and we want to bring facts over fear on this topic. Heavy metals are found in everything, but overexposure can create risk, especially for little ones. The FDA is working on finalizing action levels for heavy metals in baby food, but currently there are no U.S. federal regulations on heavy metal levels in baby food. At Little Spoon, we already follow the stricter European Union guidelines, limiting lead and arsenic* to 20 parts per billion (ppb) or less, cadmium to 40 ppb or less, and mercury to 10 ppb or less (even though there is no EU limit for mercury in baby food). These limits ensure minimized exposure while giving your little one the best possible quality. You can learn more about heavy metals by watching "The Truth About Toxins" on the Little Spoon Our Standards page.
